Worry

Sometimes I go off the grid and it’s usually always the same reason, being distracted and off my center a touch.  In my past it could last for days, weeks, and months.  Today a good friend wrote about worry and how worry can distract and affect his path in life.  He went about saying, “I’ve been thinking about worry this week. If I let myself, I could worry about anything.  I’m really good at it.  I think it’s learned behavior to worry but I also think I inherited it from my mother.  She was the Grand Champion.  We all have heard definitions of worry: “the illusion of control” may be, for me, the most accurate.  Worry can cause anxiety which has all kinds of negative impacts on the body, even including a terrible taste in the mouth!  When we worry about something, we can realize that we really have control of very little in this life”.

What’s special about his comments today is his gentle and loving reminder.  Not to turn away from our struggles because they will always be there, but to turn to the bigger picture the bigger hope and bigger truths!! He goes on to say,

“Several times a day, I recite Psalm 91 in part or whole.  For this one I like the Message version.  Here are some of the phrases, “God, you are my refuge. I trust in you and I am safe.” “God’s huge outstretched arms protect you – under them you’re perfectly safe.”  “Fear nothing” “The High God is your very own home, evil can’t get close to you, harm can’t get through the door.”  “if you hold on to me for dear life, says God, I’ll get you out of any trouble.”  “Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you.   When I worry about things, I turn to this psalm these days; other times in my life, it’s been other passages.  I can’t banish worry altogether, but I have learned to shorten its life by continually reminding myself that God is bigger than I can even imagine, that God holds every part of my life in God’s hands, that events in this world unfold as they will but I am never alone on the journey”.

It was good to be reminded that God is bigger that I can even imagine.  Thanks Jim for helping me out of my funk today.

”Blessings on your journey”
