It would appear that I have spent an inordinant amount of time in my lifetime analyzing my struggles and unhappiness in order to find the causes and make improvements (caught on the hamster wheel). It’s always seemed the right way to figure out the next steps and the right course of action in life because my mind is wired to do this, so is yours! Every day when we open our eyes it begins, the constant evaluating and navigating the days journey. We judge everything the moment we open our eyes, it is our safety net, it keeps us safe.
The problem is, the moment we wake up and begin our journey, we pick up all of the tools we’ve been using and think we need. We pick up fear that we’ve learned we need at certain times and in different situations we’ve had in life. We pick up uncertainty and lack of confidence. We pick up lack and unworthiness, pain, illness, helplessness, we pick up the heritage of family disfunction, patterns, codes etc. etc. etc. And, maybe some of us even pick up joy, happiness and peace. I say it’s a problem because these tools are all tools we used and thought we needed in past situations. We have integrated them into who we think we are because they are familiar and have been with us for a long time, to be without them would feel odd and unfamiliar. I would rather feel unworthy or undeserving, uncertain or unhappy because it is more familiar and feels normal to me. It would make me feel uncomfortable and “not like me” with some new feeling I’m unfamiliar with. In fact, most people wouldn’t even recognize me if I was wandering around with love and peace in my heart all the time. They’d say, who’s that person? What happened to him? Isn’t that strange? Or my favorite, must be he’s joined a cult!! Etc.
In the process of transformation we are required to drop old normals and pick up, or accept new normals. This means we let go of old tools and enter the world as a new and different person, without them (our new normal). Sometimes we have a choice to do this and sometimes we are forced to. During our re-entry we (like the astronauts) go through an intense and heated entrance as the resistance of our atmosphere (our old normal) burns off. It takes some amount of time, sometimes days, sometimes weeks or months, but it will burn off, it will change things.
The Star Trek mission statement “to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations and to boldly go where no man has gone before” was and continues to excite me with the potential of new and exciting worlds to discover. For some of us it might be time to join a crew and explore the new worlds we can create with our own thoughts and actions! I, for one, will never let you feel alone if you come. I have dedicated my life to walking with those in the throes of transformation, I don’t expect to stop now!! Giddy-up
