There are times!

There are times when we may feel disconnected from the world. Our actions can seem like they are of no major consequence, and we may feel like we exist in our own vacuum. Yet, the truth is that our simplest thought or action — the decisions we make each day, and how we see and relate to the world — can be incredibly significant and have a profound impact on the lives of those around us, as well as the world at large. The earth and everything on it is bound by an invisible connection between people, animals, plants, the air, the water, and the soil. Insignificant actions on your part, whether positive or negative, can have an impact on people and the environment that seem entirely separate from your personal realm of existence. Staying conscious of the interconnection between all things can help you think of your choices and your life in terms of the broader effect you may be creating.

Here is my gift to you

With all the powerfully negative energy surrounding us these days , it’s of paramount importance as to how we navigate our journey through. If we embrace and hold this energy as real we will enter its discord, anxiety, struggle, pain and fear, we will perpetuate and allow for it to control us and those around us. Our very state of being allows us to fall or hopefully rise above all of this. While it may feel very real and may look very real, “our response/reaction” is what is controlling us and causing our discord, uncertainty and struggle, or conversely peace. We are the creator!!!

If you are feeling anxiety, fear, discord, FEAR you are not alone. While I have written about this before, Here is my gift to you today.

Neutrality – the state of not supporting or helping either side in a conflict, disagreement, etc.; impartiality.

This morning I woke up with the concept of neutrality front of mind. I thought it odd to have this word being expressed to me so clearly, but, I sense it has something to do with my being a good observer. When I’m actively being an “observer” (which I do well), I am not supporting any side in conflict, I am neutral, I do not have a dog in the fight. And, even though I still have my own opinion, i am not perpetuating the fight, the struggle, the scrum. As you may know, this can be a challenge at times. If I can remain In that neutral place, I will have no negative feelings or discomfort while still seeing the conflict clearly. Ultimately, all of this will pass in time but it takes practice (do the time please!!!).

Bottom line, If we don’t “support the conflict” we don’t feed the beast (the ego) which allows the conflict to settle or dissipate within us, potentially ending or at least calming the struggle. This simple yet powerful effort allows for all of the negative energy and conflict to pass through and away. It will literally dissipate until it raises its ugly head again, which it does (that’s life by the way). Unfortunately at this time in life we are being asked to assist in a transition of consciousness not seen before. These times are part of a universal change, a growth of spirit and we need to allow for it. We need to embrace each other with all of our warts and differences. We indeed are all in it together and we need your help.

And, I love that

What is it that I love about falling apart? Is it about what seeing what shakes loose, what escapes or is set free. Is it The fear of dying, having never lived.
Am I certain that I existed before this moment?
Is my memory trustworthy and reliable?
Hard work does not exhaust me.
But half-hearted fearful daily exchanges weaken me.

Body and soul.
My hesitation, over-thinking and ruminating depletes me.
So, I lower my toe into the river, testing the water again.
The current pulls me in, captivating me with its promise of freedom.
Or did I perform a swan dive from the pier? Or was I shoved?
Winding, blinding, damned and deconstructed eroding into the bay,
I am the unwashed
washed to sea.
All directions veer into the impossible, uncharted, infinite, and divine.
Swallowed by the beast, I survive in her belly.
She spits me out into the eye of a storm.

And, my inner compass tells me that I am home.
Immersed wholeheartedly and finally into my purpose, I find meaning in everything that must be done.
I was meant to live in the storm, where things break apart and need to be put back together, where courses change in an instant.
And where my heart is needed.
And, I love that

Put it in neutral!

Often when I wake up I’ll have certain specific thoughts, ideas or feelings. This morning I woke up with the concept of neutrality front of mind. I thought it odd to have this word being expressed to me so clearly, but, I sense it has something to do with my being a good observer. In that place of impartiality I have no feelings or discomfort and I can see the conflict clearly. Ultimately, I notice the distress or conflict is about being right or having people agree or do what we want them to do. You find it everywhere and it’s somewhat out of control these days.

Walk this way!!

This morning, I was commenting on a friends post that reminded me of some great quotes by Wayne Dyer. The one I’m most attracted to today is the “When you change the way you look at the world, the world you look at changes” and coming in a close second is “Nothing in the world today existed, until it was first imagined” Both of these quotes speak to the power of our thoughts, beliefs and imagination.

With all the disruption brought on by a global pandemic, political and emotional discord, our thoughts, beliefs and imagination are being bombarded and challenged daily. We are kept abreast of the growing numbers of deaths in the US and globally from pandemics and protest unrest. We are bombarded by opinions in the media and on social media, and we are slowly recognizing we are not capable of living together with a common purpose and commitment. It is time for all of us to move towards a supporting position and role in our evolution.

My intent is not to instill more fear into the world today, but to suggest we consider something else. I will not preach or suggest you do or say anything, yet, I would love it, if you would take the two quotes above and carry them with you for a while.

Your perfection and holiness

You can never be deprived of your perfection and holiness, because its goes with you wherever you go. You can never suffer, you can never be alone and nothing can destroy your peace of mind. How bout that!  This idea of a new reality could eventually overcome completely the sense of loneliness and depression.

Depression is an inevitable consequence of our error in thinking. So is anxiety, worry, helplessness, misery, suffering, and intense fear of loss. The scary thing to me is we have invented many “cures” for what we believe to be the “ills of the world.” But the one thing they do not do is to question the reality of the problem.

For years (a lifetime so far) I have been working on questioning the reality of my problems with some success. I have written about it, prayed about it, meditated about it, and counseled about it only to learn its effects cannot be cured.  It cannot be cured because the problem is not real. How bout that!  It is not real because deep within us everything is perfect, ready to radiate through us and out into the world. This idea, this new thinking can cure all sorrow, pain, fear and loss because it will heal the mind that thought these things, the mind that thought these things were real and suffered out of its allegiance to them. Although some days are easier than others, we cannot give up because Living and Dying is a challenge. A challenge we have asked for, and one that opens the door to living a spiritual life in a human experience.  Take a few deep breaths and feel that connection with our perfection and holiness.  Make it a big part of your day.

What speaks to your heart?

Life is sculpted on a moment-to-moment basis. Every one of the thoughts we think, the words we speak, and the actions we take contributes to the complex quality and character of the universe’s unfolding. It simply is not possible to be alive without making an impact on the world that surrounds us. Every action taken affects the whole as greatly as every action not taken. And when it comes to making the world a better place, what we choose not to do can be just as important as what we choose to do.

For example, when we neglect to recycle, speak up, vote, or help somebody in immediate need, we are denying ourselves the opportunity to be an agent for positive change. Instead, we are enabling a particular course to continue unchallenged, picking up speed even as it goes along. By holding the belief that our actions don’t make much of a difference, we may find that we often tend to forego opportunities for involvement. Alternatively, if we see ourselves as important participants in an ever-evolving world, we may feel more inspired to contribute our unique perspective and gifts to a situation.

It is wise to be somewhat selective about how and where we are using our energy in order to keep ourselves from becoming scattered. Not every cause or action is appropriate for every person. When a situation catches our attention, however, and speaks to our heart, it is important that we honor our impulse to help and take the action that feels right for us. It may be offering a kind word to a friend, giving resources to people in need, or just taking responsibility for our own behavior. By doing what we can, when we can, we add positive energy to our world. And sometimes, it may be our one contribution that makes all the difference.

And Crown Thy Good With Brotherhood!

Its been a month since I last posted to my blog (sounds like a confession, lol).  I find it interesting because, for many years now I’ve been writing and posting daily.  What has happened, what’s changed??

What’s happened?  As you all know we are now engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation (belief), or any other nation (opinion) so conceived and so dedicated can long endure.   With your indulgence I reference President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.  It begins with “Our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal”  It goes on to speak to what we the living need do, “the great task remaining before us – that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave there last full measure of devotion”.  And it ends with, “That we here, highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain – that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom – and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth”

As a child I was made to learn the Gettysburg Address by my father, as part of a school project.  It has always served me as a reminder of the cost of wars and political and personal differences to our society.  It would appear to me that we are still engaged in a great civil war, and I want nothing of it, It sickens me.  We’ve been there, done that, and what have we learned?

There are many references and historic truths to rely on and learn from. And while our actions have not always been perfect, our accomplishments and opportunities available  are impressive in this country.  We can weather the storm, we were born to do this.  In the anthem “America”, we were given this reflection, it goes, America, America, God shed his grace on thee, and crown thy good with Brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.  We are a country founded under God with the foundation of brotherhood.

As I add another birthday today to my own personal history (68), I weep for my Brothers and Sisters struggling, hurting and feeling the need to find something or someone to hold on to, and, I weep for those not recognizing and recalling the historic lessons and costs we have already endured.

What’s changed I ask?  “We forget” forget who we are, that we’re in it together, and where we came from as americans!  Take a moment this weekend to read our declaration of Independence, It was signed today, July 2nd, and ratified on July 4th.

God bless us!

I’m sitting hear feeling very disconnected, upset and disheartened right now. Not because of my concerns about the worldwide pandemic, the rioting, or my fear of dying or anything like that. I’m feeling this way because people I love and care about have anxiety, despair and hate in their hearts and they can’t seem to find a way out of it. I don’t blame them, because the world that surrounds us is setting these fires in every direction. Those fires, ignighting fear not love.

I try my best to dig trenches around them and do prescribed burns to mitigate the damage yet, to little or no avail, or so it seems. I use humor, philosophy, authenticity, music, and just plain old love. It might look like my best efforts fail, or so it seems. Maybe it’s hopeless, maybe it needs to get worse before it gets better. 

I find myself praying every day for some sign, some relief from this pain. I’m disheartened, yet hopeful, always hopeful. 

For tomorrow will bring new growth from the dust, tomorrow will be a day unlike any other, tomorrow might be that one day that changes our world forever. I’m hopeful, always hopeful because I know this, Thoughts themselves are an energy, and it’s vital that we need to work on not holding on to the ones that will weaken us.

People get ready!

Last night, like every Sunday night, I have the privilege of spending an hour with singer-songwriter, Chris Wilson (  On Sundays, he performs Songs of Faith, an hour long live broadcast, and then again on Wednesday, I spend an hour with him at his live by request stream.  I encourage you to check it out!!  Last night his songs and message, revolved around the concept of discomfort.

With all that is surrounding us these days, many of us are finding more and more discomfort as we navigate this health crisis.  His premise which I share, is that discomfort is always the catalyst, the fuel, that motivates us to act, to move, to change!!  Without it, we have little if any movement.  In fact it’s essential, we don’t know joy without pain.  He went on to say that this little pause (little, in the big picture) is essential as it allows us to reflect and think about what is my personal relationship with God, my family, friends, work, social life and media, etc. etc.   We can experience something beautiful if we realize how essential it really is, discomfort is good.  Then he sang “People get ready”  written by Curtis Mayfield.
